Job Description :

Metro Services is hiring a Turning Lathe Operator near Columbus, IN. This position is Temp/Contract to Direct for an automotive manufacturer. Don't miss this opportunity!


Turning Lathe Operator Duties:



  • As a turning lathe operator, your duties include set-up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining a lathe machine to create new metal parts

  • All Operators are to inspect the product that is received to line and before it leaves their process

  • Once job-specific training has been verified operators will then aid in the training of new operators

  • Proper handling and labeling of products to maintain personal safety and product quality

  • Being an active contributor to identifying operations problems and improvement opportunities

  • Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment after being trained on standards

  • Maintain excellent attendance during work schedules (begins and ends work as expected, calls in according to company policy when arriving late for work or when absent, observes policies on break and lunch periods)

  • Keeps management and technical support aware of any need for assistance with safety, quality, or machine operations issues




Turning Lathe Operator Responsibilities:



  • Operators must follow all Safety, Quality, fabrication rules, and equipment maintenance requirements as documented in the company’s quality system

  • All Turning operators are responsible for following all Turning work instruction

  • Everyone is responsible for maintaining good housekeeping habits

  • Operators must also recognize the negative impacts that result in not following documented standards

  • You are responsible for ensuring the machine produces high-quality products, runs smoothly and at capacity, and is properly maintained

  • Read and understand operations performance standards

  • Check under the machine for any obstructions that should not be there

  • Check all emergency stop bottoms to ensure they work

  • Check the machine and process set-up

  • Set automatic controls to appropriate levels

  • Check all gauging is set to the appropriate calibration

  • Load and unload parts lines

  • Visually inspect the material entering & leaving the machining/turning process

  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining,

  • and adjusts machine controls as required

  • Verifies finished workpieces to match quality standards

Required Qualifications :

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:



  • 1+ Years of Experience

  • Experience with using gauges for quality inspections (micrometers, calipers)

  • Able to lift, up to 10 pounds repeatedly

  • Train others once your knowledge is confirmed and practiced to a level of consistent quality


 


All candidates must have an expert level of the following skillset:



  • Monitoring operations and controls to ensure the turning process is running correctly to performance standards

  • Identifying any problem with the operations process and communicating with operations leaders and technical support to get help solving the root cause issues

  • Knowledge to include, but not limited to:

  • Understand internal quality checks for the entire process

  • Understand and practice all machine and operator safety instructions and practices (safety eye-wear; gloves; working with machine guard barriers, etc.)

  • Understanding of basic manufacturing mathematics to ensure quality and productivity standards are met

  • Understanding how quality checks in turning processes impact other processes

  • Math concepts: addition/subtraction of decimals

  • Understanding/experience with the metric system

  • Basic understanding of CNC machine operations

  • Basic understanding of blueprint reading

  • How to effectively communicate and demonstrate machine operations and instructions with employees transferring into the turning operations department
