This position is directly responsible for the following:



  • Providing technical leadership and technical support on a product-by-product basis

  • Identifying product application issues derived from technical specifications, customer requirements, drawings, and general application knowledge

  • Engineering potential solutions by incorporating Lydall's products to be communicated through detailed technical proposals and presentations

  • Completing 3D designs and detailed 2D drawings and conducting numerical simulations parallel to the product selection and technical support responsibilities


Other duties and responsibilities are as follows:



  • Develop and sustain technical expertise on materials, associated products, and related applications to provide product recommendations; Maintain comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all Company products and their applications, Manufacturing processes, and applicable safety & health concerns; In addition, maintain working knowledge of competitive product information

  • Provide technical support to the applications and sales groups for technical-commercial activities required to maintain and grow business on assigned accounts, including development/validation of proposed solutions, assistance at customer presentations, participation in technical reviews, interpretation/co-development of customer Statement of Requirements, submission of detailed technical proposals and reports, and other activities required by the Sales and Engineering Staff

  • Create or optimize conceptual 3D designs as required, incorporating both form (DFM, DFA, and metal forming practices) and function (thermal, acoustical, and mechanical), and generate the required design engineering reports and technical recommendations for subsequent detailed designs and plant cost/feasibility reviews; Assist in detailed 2D/3D CAD design work as required for peak workload situations

  • Develop/Maintain relationships with key customer Engineering activities, using regular contact to identify customer issues that could benefit from solutions and to establish/maintain reputation as the key solution-provider for thermal and acoustical automotive applications

  • Support customer technical groups as required for launch programs and engineering changes, including participation in PDT meetings and other key customer events

  • Present professional appearance and demeanor at all times

  • Maintain confidentiality and privileged information

  • Travel as necessary to customer locations, manufacturing plants, out-of-office sales meetings, trade shows, or seminars

Required Qualifications :

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology (degree must be from an accredited institution)

  • Automotive Application Engineering / Program Management experience at a Tier I Automotive supplier

  • Strong understanding of thermal and acoustical physics

  • CAD/CAE design/analysis capability

  • Knowledge of descriptive geometry/GD&T

  • Visual acuity requirements such as depth perception, including three-dimensional vision and ability to judge distances and spatial relationships

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or carry articles such as computers and small tools

  • Simulation and Programming (VB) skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills necessary for

  • internal as well as external customer contact

  • Well-organized with good time management skills to work independently

  • Demonstrated Computer skills (Excel and Word)

  • Ability to travel as required to visit customers, suppliers, and Lydall Manufacturing facilities (Expectation is 30% of the time)
